A new tracking poll by Global InfoAnalytics has positioned former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the clear favourite to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) into the 2028 general election.

According to the poll, 57% of voters prefer Dr. Bawumia as the NPP’s presidential candidate, placing him well ahead of former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, who garnered 29% support.

Former Minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum received 6%, while Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Bryan Acheampong polled 5%. Former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong rounded out the list with 3%.

Dr. Bawumia also holds a commanding lead in the swing regions of Greater Accra, Central, and Western. In these key battlegrounds, he again secured 57% of the vote, followed by Kennedy Agyapong at 32%. Dr. Adutwum and Dr. Acheampong each received 4%, with Kwabena Agyapong maintaining 3%.

The poll further suggests that in a hypothetical runoff between Bawumia and Agyapong, the former Vice President would extend his lead, securing 62% of the vote compared to Agyapong’s 38%.

Among NPP delegates, Bawumia also maintains a solid lead. The survey shows him with 47% support, with Agyapong trailing at 17%. Dr. Acheampong and Dr. Adutwum received 3% and 1% respectively, while Kwabena Agyapong also registered 1%. Notably, 27% of delegates remain undecided, and 4% declined to disclose their preference.

In a runoff scenario among delegates, Dr. Bawumia’s support increases slightly to 49%, while Agyapong garners 19%. The number of undecided delegates remains unchanged at 27%, with 5% declining to state their choice.

With strong numbers both among the general electorate and party delegates, Dr. Bawumia appears to be in a dominant position as the NPP looks ahead to selecting its 2028 presidential candidate.
