The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have called on the media and the general public to approach discussions surrounding the recent Z-9 Air Force helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region with caution and sensitivity. The tragic incident claimed the lives of eight military personnel.

In a statement released by Captain VA Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, the GAF expressed concern over the spread of unverified claims and speculation related to the crash.

It warned that such narratives not only risk misinforming the public but also worsen the grief experienced by the families of the deceased.

“In honour of the fallen officers and out of respect for their families, we urge journalists, commentators, bloggers, and content creators to ensure accuracy and restraint in their coverage,” the statement urged.

The Armed Forces acknowledged the widespread public interest in the event and assured that a comprehensive investigation is already underway. The GAF indicated that it is committed to uncovering the true cause of the crash and is open to involving international aviation experts if required.

“Any attempt to draw conclusions based on speculation or personal opinion at this stage is not only misleading but also premature,” the statement emphasized. “We advise the public to treat such information with caution.”

The GAF extended its deep appreciation to the government, institutions, and individuals who have shown support during this period of national mourning. It also conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen officers, praising their bravery and service to the nation.

“We honour the memory of these patriots and pray for their souls to rest in peace,” the statement concluded.
