Anniversary edition brings together more than 1,000 participants, with a focus on turning professional learning into classroom impact
Ghana International School (GIS) marked the 10th anniversary of its TIME Educators’ Conference on Saturday, bringing educators and education stakeholders together at its Accra campus under the theme, “10 Years of Impact: Transforming Education, One Teacher at a TIME.”
The milestone edition focused on the role of continuous professional development, shared learning and collaboration in strengthening teaching and improving the classroom experience.
Speaking to MX24 at the event, Nadia O. Bruce-Muller, Principal and Head of School at GIS, said the conference had attracted more than 1,000 participants.
“We have almost 100 presenters,” she said, describing participation from schools within Ghana as well as presenters who had travelled from abroad. She also highlighted the involvement of two senior students as presenters. Watch the interview.

Reflecting on its beginnings, Bruce-Muller recalled that the conference started without sponsors, with approximately 30 presenters drawn from GIS. She described the sharing of the school’s expertise as part of its social responsibility and pointed to the conference’s expanding reach as evidence of growing interest in professional learning.
In a separate interview with MX24, she explained the thinking behind the initiative: “It’s a conference for teachers by teachers.”
The aim, she said, was to create an accessible opportunity for educators to learn from one another, recognising that not every teacher could travel to professional conferences elsewhere. As students and the educational landscape change, teachers also need opportunities to develop their practice. Watch the interview.

This year’s anniversary theme placed particular emphasis on what happens after the learning.
“But what do you do with that learning?” Bruce-Muller asked. She encouraged participants to take something from the conference back into their classrooms, explaining that individual changes in teaching practice could extend the event’s impact to students. Watch her remarks on classroom impact.
Panel discussions, exchanges among participants and exhibitor displays formed part of the anniversary experience, creating opportunities to explore ideas, discover resources and make professional connections.
Conceived and launched in 2016 by then GIS Principal Dr. Mary Ashun, the TIME Educators’ Conference provides a forum for educators and school leaders to exchange ideas and develop their professional practice. Its anniversary edition continued that purpose while celebrating the contribution of teachers to education. Conference background.
