Ghanaian football club Asante Kotoko has announced that two players from their squad have gone missing in the United States ahead of their match against DC United in the Capital City Africa Cup.
The players, both Sudanese nationals,Esmat AbdalHamid Mohamed and Obdoelkarem Yoouef Yagoub left the team’s hotel without permission and have not returned.
The club has reported the incident to U.S. authorities, and a search for the players is currently underway.
In a statement, Asante Kotoko urged fans to remain calm as they investigate the situation.
The statement reads, “Asante Kotoko SC regrets to inform our supporters and the public that two players, Esmat AbdalHamid Mohamed and Obdoelkarem Yoouef Yagoub, are currently missing from the camp.
They left the team’s hotel on Friday, 11th October 2024, without permission, and all efforts to contact them have been unsuccessful. We have officially notified law enforcement in the United States and are cooperating fully to ensure their safe return.
We ask our supporters to remain calm as we work with the relevant authorities.”
