Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford in a deal that could rise to £71 million. The Cameroon international has signed a five-year deal at Old Trafford, fulfilling a lifelong dream to wear the famous red shirt.

The 25-year-old winger becomes the third major attacking arrival of United’s summer, following Matheus Cunha and teenage talent Enzo Kana-Biyik. He joins amid high expectations after racking up 70 goals and 51 assists in 242 appearances for Brentford.

Mbeumo’s deal includes an initial £65m fee, with a further £6m in performance-related bonuses. His arrival concludes a long transfer saga that began in early June and saw two earlier United bids rejected.

“As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take the opportunity,” said Mbeumo. “This is the team whose shirt I wore growing up.”

The former Brentford star had a standout 2024/25 season, scoring 20 Premier League goals and adding seven assists. He has evolved from a raw winger to one of the most consistent forwards in the league.

Director of Football Jason Wilcox hailed the deal as a major win for United’s rebuild under Ruben Amorim. “His belief in our project and desire to join this club confirmed he was the right fit,” said Wilcox.

Mbeumo is expected to wear the number 19 shirt and will join the squad for their pre-season tour in the United States. Amorim is counting on his versatility and experience to add bite to United’s front line.

At Brentford, Mbeumo was more than a star. He was a symbol of the club’s rise to the Premier League and a key figure in their biggest moments.

Brentford Director of Football Phil Giles said: “Our fans have loved him, and he’s been part of some of our greatest days.”

United fans now hope Mbeumo’s journey will bring new glory to Old Trafford. His signing marks another statement of intent as the club prepares for a new era under Amorim.
