The Technical University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (TUTAG) has issued a strong call to all stakeholders in the upcoming December 2024 elections, emphasizing the need for transparency and trust in the electoral process.

In a press release, TUTAG highlighted growing concerns regarding the accuracy of the voters’ register and the urgent need for an audit and corrections to safeguard the integrity of the polls.

TUTAG’s leadership underscored that recent developments surrounding the voters’ register have raised alarms, with fears that any discrepancies or errors could undermine the credibility of the election results.

The association stated, “As an association deeply committed to the democratic values that underpin our society, TUTAG urges that these calls for audits and corrections should be given priority to engender trust in the outcome of the December 7, 2024 polls.”

The association also stressed the importance of collaboration among political parties and relevant institutions to ensure that the election is not only transparent but also free from undue influence or manipulation.

The statement noted that this collective effort is critical to preserving the democratic fabric of Ghana.
TUTAG expressed alarm over the rising tensions regarding the voters’ register, warning that failure to address these concerns could pose a threat to the peace and democratic stability of the nation.

“The growing tension surrounding the voters’ register is alarming and if not addressed with urgency and transparency, could undermine the peace and democratic stability of our nation,” the statement warned.

The association reaffirmed its belief that only through a transparent, free, and fair election can the will of the Ghanaian people be truly reflected.

It called on all political parties and the Electoral Commission to work together in good faith to resolve any discrepancies in the register, thereby ensuring that the 2024 elections strengthen, rather than weaken, the nation’s democracy.

The press release was signed by Prof. Uriah S. Tetteh, President of TUTAG, and Samuel Jabez Arkaifie, the General Secretary, urging all involved parties to act swiftly to maintain the trust and integrity of the electoral process.
