President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo delivered his final State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Friday, January 3, 2025.

His speech reflected on the achievements of his administration and the progress Ghana has made under his leadership. Below are key statements from his address:

1.Economic Recovery:

“I am able to say with confidence that the crisis is over, and the economy has recovered faster and strongly as projected.”

2.Education Transformation:

“The quality of education in the country has been enhanced. Our students are being prepared for the demand of the 21st century.”

“We have transformed education with Free SHS. This year’s results [WASSCE] have maintained the laudable trends from 2020.”

3.The Fight Against Galamsey:

“I made a public commitment to tackle galamsey. The fight against galamsey is not a fight against mining.”

“I was prepared to put my presidency on the line in the defence of our lands and waterbodies. The fight against galamsey led directly to the loss of many parliamentary seats in the NPP.”

4.Infrastructure Development:

“This administration has constructed more roads and interchanges than any other administration. We’ve made some good strides on improving the housing sector. I am leaving Office with the lights on.”

5.Acknowledging the President-Elect:

“I congratulate the President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, and Vice President-elect, Jean Naana Opoku Agyemang, on the victory and wish them well in their second term as President of the Republic.”

6.Ghana’s Future:

“I have served Ghana with deep love and I am happy to hand over a Ghana that is safe, secure, united, and firmly rooted in her attachment to democratic principles and the rule of law. I leave behind a Ghana that is working.”

President Akufo-Addo concluded by urging continued commitment to the country’s progress and unity as he prepares to hand over to his successor.
