Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Austrian defender Kevin Danso from Lens, swooping in at the last moment to hijack Wolves’ deal for the 26-year-old. Initially set for a move to Molineux with a medical even booked Danso pulled out at the eleventh hour to seal a switch to North London.

Spurs will take Danso on loan for the remainder of the season before an obligation to buy in the summer. The move comes at a crucial time for Ange Postecoglou, who has been dealing with a defensive crisis that has left key players sidelined. With Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, Radu Dragusin, and Destiny Udogie all missing games, Spurs desperately needed reinforcements to keep their season on track.

Danso, who made 128 appearances for Lens since joining in 2021, brings experience and stability to a backline that has been stretched thin. Having previously played in the Premier League during a loan spell at Southampton, he’s no stranger to English football and will be expected to hit the ground running.

Postecoglou’s urgency for a new defender intensified after Dragusin suffered a knee injury against Elfsborg, just as Van de Ven made his long-awaited return.

Danso’s arrival provides much-needed depth, easing the burden on 18-year-old Archie Gray and giving Spurs greater flexibility as they chase silverware and push for a strong finish in the Premier League.
