Leicester City Football Club has made the surprise decision to part company with manager Steve Cooper, just five months after he took charge. Cooper’s departure comes after a disappointing run of results, which has left the Foxes languishing in 16th place in the Premier League table.
Cooper’s tenure at Leicester City was marked by a series of lackluster performances, which ultimately led to his downfall. Enzo Meresca guided Leicester to promotion from the Championship last season before joining Chelsea over the summer, Cooper has since struggled to replicate that success in the top flight.
The final straw came on Saturday, when Leicester City suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea. The loss marked the fifth game without a win for the Foxes, and it seemed to be the final nail in Cooper’s coffin.
Cooper’s departure was confirmed by the club on Sunday, with a statement reading: “Leicester City Football Club has parted company with Steve Cooper, who leaves his position as First Team Manager with immediate effect.”
In addition to Cooper, Assistant Manager Alan Tate and First Team Coach and Analyst Steve Rands have also left the club. The trio depart with the club’s thanks for their contribution during their time at Leicester City.
With Cooper’s departure, Leicester City has begun the process of appointing a new manager. The club has confirmed that First Team Coach Ben Dawson, supported by coaches Danny Alcock and Andy Hughes, will oversee men’s first team training until a new manager is appointed.
