Stefanos Tsitsipas has ended his partnership with Goran Ivanisevic just weeks after joining forces, bringing a swift and turbulent coaching chapter to a close.

The former world No. 3 confirmed the split in a heartfelt Instagram post, describing the experience as “brief but intense” and expressing gratitude for Ivanisevic’s effort and energy. The parting comes on the heels of a frustrating Wimbledon campaign and growing doubts about the Greek star’s form at the highest level.

Tsitsipas appointed Ivanisevic in May in a bid to rejuvenate his Grand Slam results. But things unraveled quickly. At Wimbledon, he was forced to retire from his first-round match due to a back injury, trailing French qualifier Valentin Royer 6-3, 6-2.

The loss was Tsitsipas’ latest in a worrying trend. He has reached just one Grand Slam quarterfinal in his last nine appearances. The pressure was mounting, and Ivanisevic didn’t hold back. After the Wimbledon defeat, he described Tsitsipas as the “most unprepared player” he had ever worked with a statement that turned heads across the tennis world.

Despite the public criticism, Tsitsipas chose to respond with grace. “As we are now following our separate ways, I have only respect for Goran, not just for what he’s achieved in tennis, but also for who he is as a person,” he wrote.

Ivanisevic’s coaching credentials are unquestionable. He guided Novak Djokovic to nine Grand Slam titles and briefly worked with Elena Rybakina earlier this year. But his latest venture with Tsitsipas simply never clicked.

The break-up raises fresh questions about Tsitsipas’ trajectory. Once seen as a future Slam champion, the 26-year-old now finds himself at a crossroads. With his ranking slipping and his confidence bruised, finding the right coach may be his most important match yet.
