Ghana Football Association President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has been appointed President of the CAF Organizing Committee for Inter-Club Competitions and Club Licensing, a move that places him at the heart of reshaping elite African football.

The elevation comes with significant responsibility, as Simeon-Okraku, also CAF’s 2nd Vice President, will now steer the future of the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, two of the continent’s most prestigious tournaments.

His new mandate extends beyond competition oversight. He will also guide the evolution of CAF’s Club Licensing System, a framework designed to professionalize African football and ensure that clubs meet international standards in governance, infrastructure, finance, and player development.

This appointment signals growing confidence in Simeon-Okraku’s leadership on the continental stage. Under his watch, Ghanaian football has seen renewed investment in structures and grassroots development, efforts that have not gone unnoticed at CAF headquarters.

He will now work closely with CAF’s Executive Committee and Member Associations to implement reforms aimed at raising the level of competition and making African club football more globally marketable. The goal: transform not just tournaments, but the very fabric of African club management.

Simeon-Okraku’s challenge will be balancing ambition with implementation across a diverse footballing landscape. But for a continent yearning for consistent excellence on the club stage, this could mark a decisive turning point.
