Dutch football legend Robin van Persie, known for his prolific career with Arsenal and Manchester United, is stepping into a new role as head coach of Eredivisie club Heerenveen.

The 40-year-old, who holds the record for most goals scored for the Netherlands men’s team, has signed a two-year contract and will commence his managerial journey this summer.

Having retired from professional football in 2019, Van Persie transitioned into coaching as an assistant coach at Feyenoord.

He also gained valuable experience leading Feyenoord’s under-18 and under-19 teams.

Now, the opportunity to lead Heerenveen’s top-flight squad marks his first head coaching position.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Van Persie stated, “I would like to continue my development and the role of head coach fits in perfectly with that goal.”

Heerenveen, known for its rich history and passionate fanbase, presents an exciting challenge for the former striker.

Van Persie’s impressive playing career includes winning the Premier League with Manchester United in 2013 and now he is eager to contribute to Heerenveen’s sporting ambitions and overall growth as head coach.
