Paris Saint-Germain produced a stunning first-half blitz to thrash Real Madrid 4-0 in the FIFA Club World Cup semi-final and book a showdown with Chelsea.
PSG scored three goals in the first 24 minutes at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, overwhelming a Madrid side that never recovered. Fabián Ruiz netted twice, while Ousmane Dembélé added a goal and an assist in a dominant display.
It was a nightmare return for Kylian Mbappé, who faced his old club for the first time since joining Madrid. He had three attempts, but PSG’s defence kept him quiet throughout. Gianluigi Donnarumma made just two saves as his back line controlled the game with ease.
Dembélé was electric from the start. In the sixth minute, he pressed Raúl Asencio into an error, setting up Ruiz for the opener. Three minutes later, Antonio Rüdiger failed to clear the ball, and Dembélé pounced, coolly finishing into the corner.
PSG’s third came from a lightning counter. Achraf Hakimi charged forward, exchanged passes with Dembélé, and squared the ball for Ruiz to slot home. Madrid were stunned, and their fans silenced under the New Jersey heat.
Trent Alexander-Arnold missed the game through injury, further weakening Madrid’s backline. Substitutes made little difference. Gonçalo Ramos came on and added a fourth in the 87th minute to complete the rout.
Luis Enrique’s team has now kept five clean sheets in six matches in this tournament. They have already beaten Atletico, Bayern, Inter, and now Madrid by a combined score of 15-0.
For Madrid, the season ends without silverware despite Mbappé’s 48 goal contributions. For PSG, it’s a chance to win a fourth trophy this year and their first ever Club World Cup.
