Kenyan international goalkeeper Patrick Matasi has been provisionally suspended for 90 days as the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) investigates allegations of match manipulation. The 37-year-old, who plays for Kakamega Homeboyz and has over 30 international caps, is at the center of a controversy sparked by a circulating video.

An undated clip, appears to show Matasi discussing an arrangement to influence the outcome of a league match. The claims have sent shockwaves through Kenyan football, prompting FKF to launch an official inquiry alongside FIFA, CAF, and other authorities. In a statement, FKF reaffirmed its “zero-tolerance policy on match manipulation,” vowing to ensure a fair and thorough investigation.

Homeboyz owner Cleophas Shimanyula has defended his player, revealing that Matasi was “shocked” by the footage and denied any involvement. The goalkeeper, a key figure for Kenya in recent years, last featured for the Harambee Stars in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in October 2024. His suspension bars him from all FKF-sanctioned events and competitions until the investigation is concluded.

Match-fixing remains a serious issue in global football, with FIFA and CAF taking strict measures against offenders. If found guilty, Matasi could face a lengthy ban, potentially ending his professional career. With Kenyan football’s credibility on the line, the FKF’s handling of the case will be closely watched as the investigation unfolds.
