Inter Milan took full advantage of Napoli’s stumble, securing a 2-0 victory over Atalanta to move three points clear at the top of Serie A. Goals from Carlos Augusto and Lautaro Martínez sealed a statement win, as Simone Inzaghi’s side tightened their grip on the title race.

With Napoli dropping points in a goalless draw against Venezia, Inter knew a win would create valuable breathing space at the summit. They delivered, controlling the game from the outset and breaking the deadlock early in the second half. Augusto rose highest to meet Hakan Çalhanoğlu’s corner, glancing a precise header past Juan Musso to give the hosts a deserved lead.

Atalanta struggled to assert themselves and their frustrations boiled over late on. Ederson saw red in the 81st minute after picking up two yellow cards in quick succession for dissent. Inter wasted no time capitalizing, as Martínez rifled a powerful strike into the far corner to put the game beyond reach.

Tempers flared further in stoppage time, with Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini dismissed for protesting a decision before Inter’s Alessandro Bastoni was sent off for a second bookable offense. Despite the late drama, the result was never in doubt. Inter’s disciplined display ensured they strengthened their position at the top, while Atalanta now find themselves six points adrift.

With just weeks remaining in the season, this victory could prove decisive for Inter. Napoli will need a response, but Inzaghi’s men have momentum firmly on their side as they chase another Scudetto.
