Inter Miami, co-owned by David Beckham, has secured a spot in the prestigious Fifa Club World Cup 2025, joining top clubs like Chelsea, Manchester City, and Real Madrid. The tournament’s expansion to 32 teams will take place in the United States from June 15 to July 3, 2025.
Inter Miami earned their spot after winning the MLS Supporters Shield, awarded to the team with the best regular-season record. This achievement was celebrated with a record-breaking performance, as Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick to help the team break the MLS regular-season points record.
Fifa President Gianni Infantino praised Inter Miami, saying, “You have shown that in the United States, you are consistently the best club on the field of play… You are deserved participants in the new Fifa Club World Cup 2025.”
The tournament will feature: 12 European teams, including Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Paris St-Germain, Inter Milan, Porto, and Benfica.
Six South American teams will also be competing in the tournament.
To complete the list , 12 teams from Asia, Africa, and North America, one team from the Oceania region and an additional team from the United States (Inter Miami) will be vying for the trophy.
Fifa’s decision to expand the tournament has drawn criticism from clubs and players, citing concerns over scheduling and player workload. Global players’ union Fifpro and the European Leagues body have filed a complaint with the European Commission.
Matches will be played across 8 venues in the US, including Inter Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, with the final taking place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The full draw will be made in December where participating teams will know who they face.
