Ghana’s Black Sharks kicked off their 2024 Beach Soccer African Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign with a thrilling but ultimately disappointing 6-3 loss to hosts Egypt.
Alexander Adjetey Adjei, Ghana’s all-time top scorer at the AFCON, stole the show with a stunning hat-trick. However, his impressive individual performance wasn’t enough to rescue the Black Sharks from defeat.
The match at the Hurghada Beach Soccer Arena was an intense, high-scoring affair. Both teams created numerous scoring opportunities, hitting the posts twice in the first period. Egypt seized control, racing to a 3-0 lead in the second period, but Ghana fought back.
Despite Ghana’s resilience, Egypt’s relentless pressure paid off, allowing them to extend their lead. Adjei’s three goals kept Ghana in contention, but ultimately, Egypt’s attacking prowess secured the win.
The victory propels Egypt to the top of Group A, while Ghana prepares to face Morocco and Tanzania in their upcoming matches.
