The world football governing body, FIFA, is set to hold a pivotal meeting with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to introduce Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in Ghana’s domestic leagues.

The two-day meeting, scheduled for October 31 and November 1, 2024, in Accra, marks the first step in FIFA’s Implementation Assessment Approval Program (IAAP). The program is essential for any Member Association aiming to adopt VAR technology.

FIFA’s VAR project team, including experts Inokuchi Takaaki and Michael Bailey, will join GFA representatives, led by General Secretary Prosper Harisson Addo, Alex Kotey (Head of Referees), Emmanuel Aglago (VAR Instructor), and Marian Mensah (Head of Legal Affairs), alongside others involved in refereeing, IT, competitions, and public relations to discuss the project’s comprehensive aspects.

The meeting aims to evaluate necessary dependencies for VAR’s successful execution, paving the way for FIFA’s approval and the official rollout of VAR in Ghana’s domestic leagues.
