Daniel Ricciardo’s hope of completing the current Formula One season has been cut short as Red Bull’s junior team, RB, replaces him with Liam Lawson for the final six races of the 2024 season.
The 35-year-old Australian’s performances failed to impress Red Bull management, leading to the decision. Ricciardo’s 13-year F1 career has been marked by 8 impressive race wins.
Lawson, 22, will be assessed over the remaining races to determine Red Bull’s 2025 plans. The New Zealander previously drove for RB in five races last season, scoring two points with a ninth-place finish at the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix.
Yuki Tsunoda has secured a seat for 2025 at RB, but the team is yet to announce his teammate. Lawson’s promotion likely prepares him to partner Yuki Tsunoda in 2025. Team principal Laurent Mekies praised Ricciardo:
“Daniel brought experience, talent, and a fantastic attitude… He will be missed, but holds a special place within the Red Bull family.”
After taking the fastest lap at the Singapore GP, Ricciardo hinted at his potential exit indicating he felt at peace with it.
