The Ministry of Energy has said that comments by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh regarding the issuance of a “dumsor” timetable have been deliberately distorted to portray the Minister as insensitive.

The ministry in a statement issued on Tuesday said the minister’s comments were taken out of context and distorted, denying accusations of insensitivity.

Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh who was speaking in an interview at the inauguration of the New Patriotic Party’s Ashanti Regional campaign team, challenged critics to devise their timetables if they felt it was necessary.

His comparison of the current energy situation to the ‘Dumsor’ era under former President John Mahama was in response to recent calls by the opposition NDC for a load management timetable, which he deemed politically motivated.

According to the ministry’s statement, the sector minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku stands firm against implementing a load management timetable but is rather keen on addressing the underlying causes of the current power challenges.

The statement reiterated the minister’s stance based on information from the Electricity Company of Ghana, indicating that efforts are underway to tackle these issues.
