Ghana’s Black Starlets Dominate Ivory Coast with 5-1 Win in WAFU Zone B U17 Opener


In a spectacular display of talent and skill, Ghana’s Black Starlets delivered a resounding victory with a 5-1 win over Ivory Coast in the opening match of the 2024 WAFU Zone B U17 Championship.

The match showcased Ghana’s prowess and determination right from the kickoff.

Joseph Narbi emerged as a key player for Ghana, scoring two goals in the first half to set the stage for an impressive performance.

His first goal came after a sublime volley assisted by Mark Kagawa, followed by a clinical finish for his brace just before halftime.

The second half saw Ghana continuing their dominance, with Godfred Sarpong adding another goal with a perfect volley shortly after the break.

Despite Ivory Coast’s efforts to fight back and score, Ghana maintained their momentum.

Harve Gbafa then extended Ghana’s lead with a header from a corner kick delivered by Benjamin Tsevanyo, further solidifying their commanding position in the match.

To cap off a fantastic day at the office, Mark Kagawa scored a sensational curler to seal the 5-1 victory for Ghana.

With this remarkable win, Ghana’s prospects of progressing to the next stage of the competition have significantly improved.

They face Benin next Tuesday at the University of Ghana stadium.
The WAFU Zone B U-17 tournament runs from the 15th to 28 May 2024 with the finalists qualifying for the upcoming U-17 AFCON.
