The Norwegian Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Ingrid  Mollestad, has praised renowned jazz musician Alune Wade for his contribution to promoting African culture through music and film.

Speaking exclusively to MX24 News at the premiere of Wade’s new documentary, Tukk: From Roots to Bayou-Documentary, held at the Alliance Française in Accra, the ambassador lauded the artist’s efforts in using jazz as a medium to tell Africa’s stories and preserve its cultural identity.

The ambassador emphasized that initiatives like Wade’s play a crucial role in bridging cultures and enhancing appreciation for African heritage on the global stage. She further revealed that the Norwegian Embassy is exploring plans to support African artists who are committed to spotlighting Ghanaian and continental culture through their work.

The premiere, which drew musicians, diplomats, creatives, and cultural enthusiasts, forms part of a broader movement led by Alune Wade to reintroduce jazz music’s African roots to audiences across the continent.

Wade’s band, comprising musicians from different parts of Africa, is also seen as a symbol of unity and pan-African expression — a theme deeply embedded in both the documentary and his live performances.

“Tukk: From Roots to Bayou-Documentary” which traces the musical and cultural journey of jazz music, is expected to tour more African countries in the coming months as part of a growing effort to deepen appreciation for African contributions to global music history.

The documentary also delves into the deep-seated African roots of jazz, aiming to bridge cultural gaps and celebrate the genre’s rich heritage.
