The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced the temporary suspension of the indefinite strike action by its staff under the Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU), clearing the way for the full resumption of national ID registration and related services across the country starting today, Monday, June 30, 2025.
The decision was communicated in a public notice issued on Sunday, June 29, and signed by Williams Ampomah E. Darlas, Head of the NIA’s Corporate Affairs Directorate.
According to the notice, the resolution follows extensive dialogue with key stakeholders, including the National Labour Commission (NLC), the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), the Ministry of Finance, and the leadership of the PSWU.
“Management acknowledges and appreciates the good faith demonstrated by the Union and wishes to assure all staff that their legitimate concerns remain a priority and will continue to receive the urgent attention they deserve,” the statement said.
The strike action had led to widespread service disruptions, affecting individuals seeking national identification cards and related documentation. The NIA expressed regret over the inconvenience caused and thanked the public for their patience during the industrial action.
“All NIA offices and registration centres across the country will resume full operations on Monday, 30th June 2025,” the statement confirmed, encouraging the public to take advantage of the resumed services.
The NIA reaffirmed its commitment to delivering “quality, efficient and reliable identification services” in fulfilment of its mandate to serve the people of Ghana.
