Newcastle secured their place in the Carabao Cup final for the second time in three seasons following a 2-0 win over Arsenal in the second leg of the semi-final.
This victory resulted in an impressive 4-0 aggregate scoreline, booking their spot at Wembley on March 16.
Goals from Jacob Murphy and Anthony Gordon extended the advantage gained in the first leg, which took place on January 7 at the Emirates.
Newcastle will now face either Tottenham or Liverpool in the final, with the second leg of their semi-final scheduled for Thursday night, live on Sky Sports Football.
The match kicked off at St James’ Park with Newcastle nearly taking an early lead. Alexander Isak, in fine form with 14 goals in his previous 13 games, appeared to score with a powerful finish after breaking past the Arsenal defense.
However, the goal was ruled out for offside following a VAR review.
Undeterred, Newcastle took the lead 15 minutes later. Isak again found space in the Arsenal defense and hit a fierce shot off the left-hand post.
Murphy was quick to react, tapping the rebound into an empty net, giving his side a deserved 1-0 lead.
Arsenal were also dealt a blow just before halftime when Gabriel Martinelli had to be substituted after suffering a hamstring injury. As the second half began, Newcastle extended their advantage with a clever play by Gordon.
After pressing Declan Rice, Gordon dispossessed him and capitalized on a loose ball to score into the bottom-left corner, making it 2-0.
With a 4-0 aggregate win, Newcastle now stands on the brink of ending a 70-year trophy drought. Their dominant performance over Arsenal guarantees them a spot in the Carabao Cup final, where they will aim to secure their first major trophy in decades at Wembley next month.
