The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has congratulated the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the election of its new national leadership.

In a statement issued by its General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC said it welcomed the successful completion of the NPP’s internal elections and reaffirmed its support for peaceful political competition and democratic governance.

The NDC urged political parties and other stakeholders to work together to preserve the democratic progress Ghana has made over the years.

It further expressed the expectation that the newly elected NPP executives would make the national interest a priority in the discharge of their responsibilities.

The party said political considerations should not overshadow issues that affect the wider interests of Ghanaians.

“It is the fervent hope of the NDC that under the tenure of this new crop of executives, there will be mutual effort to ensure that the interest of Ghana always surpasses the narrow interest of the two respective parties,” the statement said.

According to the NDC, greater emphasis on the national interest would help create the conditions needed to make Ghana “great and strong.”

The message follows the NPP’s election of its new national executives during its delegates conference over the weekend.
