The Minority in Parliament has sharply criticised the government for its continued inability to resolve the persistent energy crisis, commonly referred to as “dumsor,” which they say is disrupting lives and businesses across the country.
Speaking at a Leaders’ Media Briefing in Parliament, Deputy Minority Leader Patricia Appiagyei expressed the caucus’s deep frustration with the ongoing power outages, despite repeated assurances from the Energy Minister that the issue would be resolved swiftly.
“As we speak now, dumsor has returned, and it is affecting everybody,” Appiagyei stated. “I went home to my constituency in Kumasi, and the rampant shutdown of the power supply was worrying. Everybody is saying that Mahama left with darkness and he has come back with darkness.”
The Minority is demanding that the government present a comprehensive and sustainable roadmap to address the energy challenges facing the country.
They argue that the lack of transparency and concrete action is eroding public confidence and compounding economic hardship.
“We had the Energy Minister assuring us that he was going to deal with it within the shortest possible time. But we are still experiencing it, and we do not have a clear solution to dumsor,” she added.
The renewed power crisis has reignited national debate on energy sector management, with critics accusing the government of neglecting critical infrastructure and failing to plan adequately for rising energy demands.
