Kylian Mbappe marked his Real Madrid debut with a goal as they defeated Atalanta to secure a record sixth UEFA Super Cup in Warsaw.
The 25-year-old French forward had minimal impact in the first half as Real Madrid struggled against Gian Piero Gasperini’s disciplined team.
However, after the break, Real Madrid improved significantly. Federico Valverde scored the opener by tapping in a pass from Vinicius Jr.
As Atalanta started to tire, Mbappe extended Real’s lead to 2-0, receiving a pass from Jude Bellingham and firing a shot into the top corner.
Atalanta had been the more lively team initially, with Marten de Roon’s shot hitting the crossbar after deflecting off Eder Militao.
With Mbappe in a central role and Bellingham in midfield, Real’s best chance in the first half was Rodrygo’s effort that also hit the bar.
Following the interval, Carlo Ancelotti’s team shifted gears, and by the time Mbappe was substituted late in the match, the victory was well in hand.
Ancelotti’s triumph marked his 14th trophy in his two terms with the club and moved Real Madrid ahead of AC Milan and Barcelona, each with five UEFA Super Cup titles.
