The Office of the former President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, has expressed satisfaction with the recent ruling by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), which clears the former president of any wrongdoing in connection with the Airbus scandal.
In a statement released on Thursday, Mahama’s office emphasized that the OSP’s decision aligns with the former president’s longstanding assertion of innocence, underscoring his commitment to integrity, honesty, and transparency throughout his public service career.
“The facts of this case have always been clear,” the statement reads, highlighting that the accusations were part of a political agenda by the current government.
It also noted the UK’s Serious Fraud Office had previously found no grounds to implicate Mahama’s brother and other individuals linked to the case, yet the ruling party continued to leverage the scandal for political purposes.
The statement further reveals that President Nana Akufo-Addo personally requested an investigation into Mahama, suggesting ulterior motives behind the accusations.
Mahama’s team criticized these actions as deliberate attempts to smear the former president’s reputation with fabricated stories and false claims that have been repeatedly disproven over the past eight years.
Mahama, according to his aide, has always been forthcoming and open to any investigations, maintaining that he has “nothing to hide” and has cooperated fully with all inquiries.
In light of this, the statement challenges Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and President Akufo-Addo to undergo similar scrutiny to ensure accountability across all levels of leadership.
Despite these challenges, the statement reaffirmed Mahama’s unwavering commitment to Ghana’s progress and his dedication to fighting corruption. The former president remains focused on advocating for a better Ghana for all citizens, undeterred by what his office describes as the “fabrications and machinations” of political adversaries.
