The Mahama 2024 Campaign has issued a strong condemnation of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) Ghana following its recent announcement regarding a presidential debate for the 2024 elections.

In a press statement released on July 19, 2024, the campaign team decried the IEA’s failure to consult or inform the National Democratic Congress (NDC) about the debate plans, labelling the move as “completely unacceptable.”

In the statement, spokesperson Joyce Bawah Mogtari, accused the IEA of overstepping its authority, noting that the Constitution of Ghana does not grant the institute any power to organize election-related activities.

The statement emphasized that the IEA’s lack of communication with the NDC raises significant concerns about its intentions.

The Mahama 2024 Campaign further alleged that the IEA is acting as a front for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), suggesting that the organization aims to manipulate the electoral process in favour of the ruling party.

The statement underscored the importance of fair and transparent electoral practices, questioning the impartiality of the IEA.

Highlighting the NDC’s commitment to engaging with Ghanaian citizens, the statement noted that presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama and his running mate, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, have been actively involved in addressing the needs and concerns of the populace.

The statement pointed out that Mahama’s online and offline interactions have targeted a broad audience, fostering meaningful discussions on various issues.

The Mahama 2024 Campaign reiterated its dedication to meaningful and respectful engagement with the people of Ghana.

It urged the IEA to refrain from using the NDC’s name to promote its activities, accusing the institute of deliberate misrepresentation.

The statement concluded by assuring Ghanaians that the NDC remains steadfast in its efforts to ensure that their voices are heard and their needs addressed.
