The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians that the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy will be preserved and enhanced under his leadership.
Speaking to Christian leaders in Kumasi on Monday, November 11, Mahama pledged dedicated funding to sustain the programme. He addressed public concerns, labeling allegations that he would cancel Free SHS as “political gimmicks” aimed at misleading voters.
Mahama highlighted the policy’s positive impact in expanding access to education, while stressing the need for sustainable funding to address quality concerns. “Free SHS has come to stay,” he affirmed, adding that the NDC is committed not only to maintaining the programme but also to improving it for future generations.
His remarks aim to clarify the NDC’s position on Free SHS amid ongoing debate. Mahama acknowledged that the programme has expanded educational access but emphasized that reliable funding is essential to improve its quality.
