The Minister for Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, is scheduled to appear before Parliament this afternoon to present an update on the current COVID-19 situation in Ghana.
His address is expected at 2:00 PM at Parliament House, where he will outline the country’s level of preparedness, response strategies, and the latest data on infections, vaccination coverage, and surveillance mechanisms.
This development follows a recent resurgence of COVID-19 cases at the University of Ghana, confirmed by university authorities on Monday, June 23. In response, the institution has reintroduced strict health protocols to curb the spread of the virus.
A statement issued by the university’s health directorate on Thursday, June 26, revealed that both suspected and confirmed cases had been identified on campus. The statement urged students, staff, and visitors to observe all preventive health measures and remain cautious to minimize risk.
In light of the situation, the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs has directed all student organisations—including the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG), the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), Junior Common Rooms (JCRs), and departmental associations—to suspend all planned events and celebrations until further notice.
Professor Rosina I. Kyerematen, Dean of Student Affairs, stated that the move is a precaution aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of the university community.
“The reactivation of these protocols is essential to protecting public health and preventing further spread of the virus,” the statement emphasized.
University authorities have urged all members of the campus community to cooperate fully with the guidelines and contribute to efforts to manage the current outbreak.
