Ghana’s Benjamin Azamati has secured his spot in the semifinals of the Men’s 100 Metres at the Paris Olympics.
Azamati finished second in Heat One with a time of 10.08 seconds, trailing Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson, who clocked 10.00 seconds.
Ahead of Azamati’s heat, Benjamin Azu of Great Britain was disqualified for a false start.
In the second heat, one of Africa’s finest sprinters Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala topped the field with a time of 10.08 seconds to also progress to the semifinals.
Meanwhile, Ghana’s Abdul-Rasheed Saminu also qualified for the 100 Metres semifinals.
Competing in Heat Five, Saminu finished third in his heat with a time of 10.06 seconds.
He followed Nigeria’s Kayinsola Ajayi, who posted 10.02 seconds, and Italy’s Marcel Jacobs, who finished with 10.05 seconds.
Abdul-Rasheed Saminu and Benjamin Azamati are seeking to win medals in the 100m event at the on going París Olympics.
