The Ghana Grid Company LTD. (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have announced significant power supply interruptions across the country, starting from Wednesday, June 12, 2024.

This development is attributed to a reduction in gas supply from Nigeria.

In a joint press statement released on Thursday, GRIDCo and ECG informed the public about the ongoing power supply issues and the underlying cause—a notable decrease in gas provided by the West Africa Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo).

According to WAPCo, the reduced supply results from maintenance works being conducted by the Nigerian gas supplier.

These maintenance activities are expected to last approximately three weeks.
The reduction in gas supply has led to a decrease in overall power generation capacity in Ghana, which has already resulted in noticeable power outages in several areas.

GRIDCo and ECG emphasized their commitment to collaborating with other stakeholders in the energy sector to mitigate the impact of this shortage.

They are actively working to optimize available resources to ensure minimal disruption of power supply to consumers during this period.

The companies extended their sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused and assured the public of their efforts to resolve the situation as swiftly as possible.
For more information, the public is encouraged to visit the official websites of GRIDCo and ECG.
