The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has rejected claims suggesting that Terminal 2 at the Accra International Airport has become obsolete, describing such assertions as misleading and inconsistent with the country’s long-term aviation development strategy.

In a response to a recent public opinion article, GACL explained that the construction of Terminal 3 instead of an immediate refurbishment of Terminal 2 was based on operational efficiency and financial planning considerations, rather than any structural inadequacy of the facility.

According to the company, Terminal 2 remains a viable infrastructure asset within Ghana’s aviation sector and continues to play an important role in airport operations.

GACL further clarified that the ongoing works at the terminal are not simply refurbishment exercises but part of a broader repurposing project aimed at transforming Terminal 2 into a dual-use facility capable of handling both domestic and international flights.

The company maintained that the redevelopment forms part of efforts to improve passenger experience and optimize airport operations while aligning with future aviation demands.
