Ralph St Williams, widely known as Ralph the Fellow Ghanaian, convenor of the #FixTheCountry movement, has allegedly been arrested.
He is said to have been arrested at the Kotoka International Airport while preparing to travel to Kumasi for a mobilization event tied to the group’s #SayNoToGalamsey protest, scheduled for this Saturday.
Democracy Hub, the organization behind #FixTheCountry, has strongly condemned his arrest, which they believe is linked to Ralph’s involvement in the recent ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstration.
During Tuesday’s protest, Ralph opened the controversial National Cathedral construction pit—which has cost the country $58 million—calling attention to government mismanagement and financial waste.
In a statement released shortly after his arrest, Democracy Hub accused the authorities of attempting to suppress Ralph’s participation in the upcoming anti-galamsey protest and to silence activists fighting for environmental justice and accountability.
The group has called for his immediate release and demanded an official apology from the police, labelling the arrest as a tactic of intimidation.
Democracy Hub also announced its intention to formally petition the Inspector General of Police to address what they described as an effort to suppress critical voices and prevent peaceful advocacy.
Despite the arrest, the group remains committed to its planned protest against illegal mining practices, vowing to continue holding government officials accountable for corruption and environmental degradation.
