Ahead of the 2024 general elections, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has called on the public to be vigilant and assist the police in identifying individuals who may seek to cause violence during the December 7 elections.
Speaking to congregants of the Assemblies of God Church in Accra on Sunday, the IGP highlighted the importance of community involvement in maintaining law and order. He also stressed that public vigilance is essential for safeguarding the nation’s stability.
“We may not reach everybody, so what it means is that there could be a few others who still think that they can make an attempt to disturb the peace of this country. Those people, you may be in the community, you may hear of them, you may see them. Our prayer is to allow yourself to be used as a vessel of God to let us know those people so that we will give them a place that has been designated for them.
“As we speak, the police cells have vacancies, the prisons have vacancies. So that proactively we move them out of our community and keep them where they want to be kept so that we continue to live our lives to the fullest during the rest of the election period and beyond,” Dampare stated.
