The Leadership of the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) has announced the withdrawal of the party from the upcoming general elections following the demise of its founder and Flagbearer, Madam Akua Donkor.

This announcement was contained in a statement noted that this decision is to honour the significance and contributions of their late founder.

The Founder and leader of the Ghana Freedom Party, Akua Donkor,  passed away at Ridge Hospital in Accra on October 29.

She reportedly died at 10pm on Monday while on admission at the Ridge Hospital. She died at the age of 72.

Born in February 1952 in the Afigya Kwabre District of Ghana’s Ashanti Region, Akua Donkor was a cocoa farmer by profession and had no formal education. Known for her outspoken nature, she made a name for herself in Ghanaian politics despite her humble background.

Before her passage, Akua Donkor successfully qualified to contest the 2024 Presidential election in December 2024. She secured the number 3 spot on the ballot paper.
