The court has dropped charges against Bishop Salifu Amoako and Mouha Amoako, as well as another in the East Legon accident after the Attorney General dropped charges against them.
In court on earlier today, Monday, February 17, the State Attorney Ebenezer Yaw Acquah indicated that in light of further study of the docket, the Attorney General’s office would allow the police to conduct further investigations to determine the direction the prosecution should take.
He therefore prayed the court to withdraw the charge sheet against the accused persons.
Lawyers representing Prophet Amoako noted that they were hoping the prosecution would withdraw the charges but would not object to the withdrawal of the charge sheet.
“I was hoping that they would enter nolle prosequi. If the prosecutor wishes to withdraw the charges preferred against the accused persons, we have no objections,” Kwesi Eshun stated.
However, reports indicate that the couple were re-arrested immediately after their release under new legal circumstances after exiting the court on Monday (17 February).
On 12th of October 2024, Bishop Elijah Salifu Amoako, his wife Mouha Amoako, and sales assistant Linda Bonsu Bempah were taken into custody after Amoako’s 16-year-old son was accused of causing a fatal accident in East Legon .
The accident claimed the lives of two young girls who were caught in the collision between a white Jaguar F-Space Sports driven by a minor without a valid licence and an Acura utility vehicle that caught fire.
Salifu Amoako’s teenage son was found guilty in December 2024 of manslaughter in a tragic accident in East Legon and given a six-month sentence at the Senior Correctional Centre.
Meanwhile, the basis for their immediate re-arrest and the specifics of the charges’ withdrawal are still unknown.
