The Chief Executive Officer of AT, Leo Skarlatos, has urged students to embrace technology and artificial intelligence (AI) as vital tools for building future-ready careers in an increasingly digital world.
Addressing a full auditorium at this year’s TEDxUniversity of Cape Coast (TEDxUCC) career fair, themed “Future-Ready: Skills for a Changing World,” Mr. Skarlatos offered a candid assessment of how the global job market is evolving.
“The job market is undergoing a silent revolution,” he told students, educators, and young professionals. “If you’re not learning how to work with technology, then you’re preparing to be replaced by it.”
Drawing on his experience leading AT through multiple phases of digital transformation, Mr. Skarlatos emphasized the importance of practical tech skills beyond academic credentials. He described digital literacy as “the new currency in today’s workplace,” citing strong demand for expertise in AI, coding, analytics, and cybersecurity.
He noted that AI is no longer a futuristic concept but an active force reshaping industries such as telecommunications, finance, healthcare, media, and logistics. Routine jobs like data entry and basic customer service, he said, are increasingly being handled by machines.
“Companies will soon hire fewer people for roles like data entry and customer service, not because they don’t need talent, but because machines can now do those jobs faster, cheaper, and without breaks,” he explained. “What they need are critical thinkers, coders, analysts, and people who can partner with technology, not compete with it.”
Mr. Skarlatos also revealed that AT is preparing to roll out AI-powered solutions across its departments as part of a broader push toward innovation.
He encouraged students to remain curious, continuously learn, and take advantage of online platforms and AI-focused training resources to stay ahead of the curve.
TEDxUCC organiser Mohammed Tebson Haruna praised Skarlatos’s remarks, calling them a timely “wake-up call.”
“As AI and technology continue to redefine every aspect of life and work, we must adapt or risk being left behind,” Haruna said.
