Founder of the Kristo Asafo Mission, Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo, will be laid to rest on Thursday, July 30, 2026, as Ghana prepares a three-day programme of funeral activities in his honour.

The burial arrangements, announced by the Head of the Kantanka family, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, in collaboration with the Kristo Asafo Mission and the Funeral Planning Committee, indicate that the final burial service will be held at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region.

A national farewell ceremony will take place on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the Independence Square in Accra, bringing together government officials, traditional leaders, members of the clergy, industrial stakeholders and members of the public to pay tribute.

The final day of ceremonies will be held on Saturday, August 1, with a thanksgiving service scheduled at Jackson Park in Kumasi to honour his life and legacy.

Apostle Safo, popularly known as “Kantanka,” was widely recognised as a pioneer of indigenous innovation and African industrial development. He established the Kristo Asafo Mission in 1971 and later founded the Kantanka Group, which became known for promoting local manufacturing, particularly in automobile production and engineering.

Through Kantanka Automobile, he gained prominence for developing vehicles designed to suit African conditions, as well as innovations in agriculture, electronics and machinery, often showcased at his annual exhibitions.

Beyond his industrial achievements, he was also noted for his philanthropic work through the church and affiliated institutions, supporting education, healthcare, job creation and skills development across the country.

Tributes continue to pour in, with many describing him as a symbol of innovation, resilience and self-reliance in Africa.
