The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has intercepted a large consignment of suspected cocaine at the Swiss Port in Tema in the Greater Accra region during a routine inspection on Wednesday, April 23, 2024.

According to officials, the cargo, which was being packaged for shipment to the Netherlands, contained concealed substances suspected to be cocaine.

The seizure, which was part of NACOC’s ongoing intelligence-led operations, highlights the agency’s efforts to clamp down on international drug trafficking through Ghana’s shipping channels. According to officials, the intercepted cargo was in the final stages of packaging and was bound for export to the Netherlands.

In total, seventy-three (73) slabs weighing approximately 89.74 kilograms were seized.

Four individuals have since been arrested in connection with the attempted shipment.

They are currently in the custody of NACOC as investigations continue into the origin, ownership, and intended recipients of the illicit cargo.
