The individuals were apprehended at separate examination centres, including Twedie and Mampong, after tip-offs led to investigations and their subsequent arrests.
According to Ernest Akoto Yeboah, the Ashanti Regional Branch Controller of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the invigilators were found in possession of photocopied answers and images of examination questions on their mobile phones. Some candidates were also discovered with similar unauthorised materials, raising serious concerns about collusion.
Mr. Yeboah described the situation as deeply troubling, stating that such incidents undermine the integrity of the examination process.
“We are preparing our report on those cases, and we have forwarded it to Accra. The committee in Accra will sit on the report and decide on what to do; ours is just to submit the report. As to how it will happen next year, we will talk about it after the exams,” he noted.
WAEC is expected to take additional action once the report is reviewed by its headquarters. The Council has consistently warned against examination malpractice and pledged to uphold the credibility of the BECE and other national examinations.
