Global wealth strategist and founder of Bootstrap Magazine, Renarda Joy, has premiered her latest docuseries, Genesis, shedding light on Africa’s often-overlooked entrepreneurs.
The series spotlights the “unseen middle”, founders building businesses without big funding, media hype, or billionaire backing, amid global obsession with tech unicorns and high-growth startups.
Through raw, unfiltered conversations, Genesis reveals the personal risks, sacrifices, and grit behind starting from scratch.
At the April 18 premiere at Akuna Pod in Accra, Nakiya Pitts, founder of Zen Palms Hospitality LTD, praised the project.
“What Renarda Joy has created with Genesis is both powerful and necessary. For too long, entrepreneurship has been presented as a polished success story, but this series reminds us that behind every achievement is a journey filled with uncertainty, sacrifice and resilience. It’s honest, it’s relatable, and it will inspire a new generation of founders to embrace both the struggle and the growth,” Pitts said.
Filmed entirely in Accra, the docuseries captures entrepreneurs tackling limited funding, infrastructure gaps, and informal market pressures.
The debut episode features US-to-Ghana YouTube creators Tony and Ayo, unpacking diaspora return and continental opportunity hunts.
Deeper themes include self-doubt, discipline, financial uncertainty, and mental toughness, highlighted by the thrill of a first sale after months of hustle.
Renarda Joy, who has been in Ghana for a year from the US, launched Genesis to document silent builders shaping Africa’s economy beyond headlines.
Supported by Zen Palms Hospitality LTD (developers of Zen Palms Beach Resort & Spa in the Volta Region) and Hustle and Engmann Financial Group, episode two drops in May.
Genesis promises a grounded view of entrepreneurship central to Africa’s future. The second episode premieres in May.
