Founder and presidential candidate of the All People’s Congress (APC) Dr. Hassan Ayariga, was met with enthusiastic crowds as he led a campaign float through the principal markets and streets of Accra
The float, titled “Ride with Ayariga,” attracted attention as it moved through the bustling areas of the city, with its starting point at the APC’s office in Haatso through the Liberation, to Osu and to some markets in Accra.
The event, part of Ayariga’s campaign for the upcoming 2024 general elections, was designed to bring him closer to the people, especially market traders and kayayes (head porters), who form a significant portion of the informal economy.
- Floats like this, common in Ghanaian political campaigns, serve as a way to boost visibility, connect directly with voters, and energize the grassroots base.
Ayariga, who ranks number 9 on the ballot paper out of 13 presidential candidates, made a significant stop at Agbogbloshie market, where he was mobbed by traders and kayayes eager to catch a glimpse of the presidential hopeful.
The crowd chanted his name, with many voicing their support for his candidacy.
As the convoy made its way through the streets, Ayariga interacted with supporters and made promises to uplift the informal sector, which many of the market traders and kayayes depend on for their livelihood.
His campaign message emphasized inclusivity and the need for economic reforms that would benefit all Ghanaians.
The float through Accra’s streets showcased Ayariga’s determination to bring his message to the heart of the city, engaging with voters at a grassroots level in a highly competitive race for the presidency.
