Antoine Semenyo has written his name into Ghanaian football history. The Manchester City forward became the first Ghanaian player to be selected for the PFA Premier League Team of the Year after a standout 2025/26 campaign.
The achievement came at the annual PFA Awards. Semenyo was rewarded alongside a star-studded XI that shows just how strongly Arsenal and Manchester City shaped the Premier League season.
Arsenal lead the team with five players. David Raya, Jurriën Timber, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhães and Declan Rice all earned places after helping the Gunners produce the league’s best defensive record, conceding only 27 goals.
Manchester City have four representatives. Nico O’Reilly, Rayan Cherki, Erling Haaland and Semenyo all made the cut, while Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes and Brentford striker Igor Thiago complete the XI.
For Semenyo, however, the honour carries a deeper meaning. His selection is not simply another personal award. It marks a new chapter for Ghanaian football, with the forward becoming the first player from the country to break into the prestigious Premier League XI.
The timing makes the achievement even more striking. Since moving to Manchester City, Semenyo has continued to raise his profile and establish himself among the league’s leading attacking players.
There was more reason for City to celebrate on the night. O’Reilly was named PFA Young Player of the Year after a breakthrough campaign, adding another individual prize to the club’s impressive collection.
The final XI also tells the story of the 2025/26 season. Nine of the 11 players came from Arsenal or City, highlighting the quality and consistency of the two clubs.
For Ghanaian supporters, though, the biggest moment belonged to Semenyo. A place among the Premier League’s best has turned a fine season into a piece of history.
