ACCRA, GHANA — August 6, 2026 — Wataland Festival today announced it will make its debut on December 5, 2026, at Laboma Beach Resort in Accra. Themed “Good Vibes, Clean water. Lasting Impact”, the event will feature live music, water sports, wellness sessions, art, and a lifestyle market with the aim of funding clean water projects and coastal cleanup efforts across Ghana.
Ghana generates roughly 1 million tonnes of plastic waste each year, much of which pollutes rivers, lagoons, and the Atlantic coastline. Meanwhile millions of Ghanaians lack reliable access to safe drinking water. Wataland Festival will thus bridge this gap by directing proceeds into local community support for safe water.
Speaking about the festival, Mr. Eugene Ossei, the Festival Director of Wataland noted, “Water is central to our health, culture, and economy, yet millions still lack safe drinking water while pollution damages our beaches.” He explained that Wataland Festival is therefore designed to offer an engaging beach experience that delivers measurable, lasting support to underserved communities.
The musical lineup for the event features Ghanaian artists Gasmilla and RJZ, alongside DJ Faculty, Dredw, and Basstrvpz. By partnering with Wataland, these artists are using their platforms to actively champion Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, signalling a shared commitment to environmental sustainability and clean water access across Ghana. Their participation serves as an invitation to the wider creative community, encouraging more Ghanaian and international artists to join the movement and leverage their influence to drive meaningful social impact, Mr. Ossei added.
Ticket sales, corporate sponsorships, and individual donations directly support Wataland’s long-term targets: removing 1,000 tonnes (1 million kilograms) of waste from local waterways and installing 10 boreholes over the next decade. For this inaugural edition, organizers aim to host over 5,000 attendees, collect 10,000 kg of waste, fund three water projects, and recruit a founding group of 500 “Water Guardians” committed to ongoing local action.
