Members of Parliament are expected to return to the chamber today, Monday, August 24, following a directive by Speaker Alban Bagbin recalling Members of Parliament from their recess.
The House was adjourned on July 31, however, MPs have been asked to return earlier than scheduled to deal with matters the Speaker considers urgent.
The recall was made in accordance with Order 58(4) of Parliament’s Standing Orders, which gives the Speaker the authority to reconvene the House during an adjournment when circumstances demand.
The special sitting is expected to last five days, from Monday, August 24, through Friday, August 28.
A major item expected before the House is the consideration of two ministerial nominations submitted by President John Dramani Mahama.
The nominees are Mahama Ayariga, who has been nominated as Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, and Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, nominated as Minister-designate for Environment, Science and Technology.
Their nominations are expected to form part of the urgent parliamentary business for which the House has been recalled.
MPs are also expected to consider other matters that may come before the House during the five-day sitting.
