Renowned visual artist Ibrahim Mahama has clarified that his actions regarding an alleged assault by police officers are motivated by the pursuit of justice, not financial compensation.
The statement followed a meeting with the Police Management Board on Thursday, March 26, 2026, as part of ongoing investigations into claims involving members of the Inspector General of Police’s Special Task Force operating the “Black Maria.”
Speaking to journalists after the engagement, Ibrahim Mahama emphasised the importance of accountability and transparency in resolving the matter.
“No, we are not looking for compensation. There is no way we are looking for money. Obviously, I don’t need that. It’s not about that. It’s more just about justice,” he said.
He added that understanding the full circumstances of the incident and holding responsible parties accountable is key to strengthening public trust in Ghana’s institutions.
“So that when other people are elsewhere, and things like this happen, at least they are assured that in the country they live in, their matter will be taken seriously and there will be some kind of justice,” Ibrahim Mahama explained, underscoring the broader significance of the case for democratic accountability.
