The Ghana Police Service has arrested a woman for allegedly setting fire to the auditorium of Grace Mountain Chapel, the church led by Alpha Hour founder, Pastor Elvis Agyemang.
The incident occurred on the night of Monday, February 9, during a quiet period at the church auditorium. According to police sources, the suspect allegedly posed as a worshipper engaged in prayer before carrying out the act.
Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the church reportedly shows the woman pouring a flammable substance on chairs positioned near the altar before setting them on fire.
Security personnel at the church responded promptly and managed to contain the fire before it could spread to other parts of the auditorium. No injuries were recorded, and damage to the facility was described as minimal.
Reacting to the incident, Pastor Elvis Agyemang announced the temporary suspension of all in-person prayer sessions at the auditorium.
“If you come here today, it will not be open, but it will not stop us. We will fix the place, and prayers will still go on,” he said.
Pastor Agyemang further confirmed that the suspect is currently in police custody, adding that investigations are ongoing to determine her motive and whether she acted alone or in concert with others.
Grace Mountain Chapel hosts Alpha Hour, a widely followed daily one-hour prayer meeting that begins at 12 a.m. GMT and is streamed live on multiple social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and Zoom.
