Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has announced that the government intends to rename Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport, a move that would mark a significant change to one of Ghana’s most prominent national landmarks.

Mr Ayariga disclosed this while addressing journalists ahead of the first sitting of the Second Session of the 9th Parliament.

According to him, the proposed renaming forms part of broader government efforts to align the names of public institutions with Ghana’s democratic values and national identity.

“Government intends to rename Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport,” the Majority Leader stated, adding that the change would be effected through a bill to be laid before Parliament in accordance with established legislative procedures.

He emphasized that decisions of this nature must be firmly grounded in law and guided by the will of the people.

The proposal is expected to spark public debate, given the historical significance attached to the airport’s current name, with Parliament set to play a central role in deliberating the matter once it is formally presented to the House.
